The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) notified internet and telephone operators, this Wednesday, 9th, to release access to the X (formerly Twitter). THE unlock occurs in compliance with an order from Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who had suspended the platform for non-compliance with court decisions and Brazilian regulations.

The suspension of the network, ordered by Moraes on August 30, came after X closed its office in Brazil and refused to maintain a legal representative in the country, making it impossible to comply with legal obligations. The First Panel of the STF unanimously endorsed the decision.

The resumption of service will be gradual – as it was during the lockdown – and may vary depending on the operator and region. According to Anatel, each provider must adopt the necessary technical measures to implement the unblocking order.

The unblocking was authorized after X settled its legal disputes, including the suspension of accounts indicated by Moraes, such as those of Allan dos Santos, Paulo Figueiredo and YouTuber Bruno Aiub, known as Monark. Furthermore, the company paid off debts of 28.6 million reais, of which 18.3 million refer to non-compliance with STF decisions. The company also paid fines for improperly reestablishing access in September and for the absence of a legal representative.

In a statement, X reaffirmed its commitment to freedom of expression, “within the limits of the law”, in all countries where it operates.
