A Attorney General of the Unionthe legal arm of the federal government, notified digital platforms about the advertising of betting houses and gambling aimed at children and young people.

The extrajudicial notification is addressed to YouTube, TikTok, Kwai and Meta, responsible for Instagram and Facebook, requesting clarification on the protective measures adopted.

In the document, AGU reinforces that it is prohibited by law that advertising for this type of activity is aimed at children and teenagers, and that children under 18 are prohibited from participating in games and betting.

“If we specifically consider gaming advertising, disseminated within digital platforms, there is no doubt that that promoted by and for children and young people is unequivocally shown to be abusive/illegal – whether that is promoted by regulated companies/in the regulatory phase ( fixed-odd betting houses), whether gambling (criminal misdemeanor)”, pointed out the body.

The AGU highlighted that, contrary to the bets which are in the process of being regulated in the country, the so-called games of chance, those whose gains and losses depend exclusively or mainly on luck, do not find legal protection and are classified as a criminal misdemeanor.
