Aberdeen have named Scott Booth as the new head coach of their Women’s team.

The 52-year-old will join from Scottish Women’s Premier League leaders Glasgow City after the international break.

Following stints at Birmingham City and Lewes, Booth returned to City in the summer as an assistant to head coach Leanne Ross – having previously won six consecutive league titles as boss.

He replaces Colin Bell after the former South Korea women’s boss stepped down from the role due to ‘personal reasons’ in August.

Aberdeen are ninth in the SWPL table, one point clear of the bottom three, after just two wins from their opening 10 league games.

Booth said: ‘”There’s been interest from Aberdeen for a while. They are my hometown club and one I have had a long association with.

“The decision to accept this opportunity has been difficult, particularly given how amazing Laura, Leanne and all the players and staff have been in welcoming me back to a club, and place that mean a lot to me.

“Weighing up personal circumstances and the opportunity that the Aberdeen project provides professionally, it felt like this was the right decision to make at this time.

“I’ve hugely enjoyed reacquainting myself with old faces and getting to know new ones and working with Leanne in slightly reversed roles has been brilliant and I wish them all continued success for the season ahead.”

Glasgow City CEO Laura Montgomery added that the search for Booth’s replacement was already underway.
