Britain’s Jack Draper claimed his first ATP 500 title with a 6-4 7-5 victory over Karen Khachanov in the Erste Bank Open final in Vienna.
Draper faced resistance from Khachanov in the first set but managed to muscle his way through to take the early advantage.
The British No 1 surged into a 4-0 lead in the second set and was on the brink of a victory, but Khachanov showed some fine resistance to get back into it, levelling the set at 4-4 before Draper fought back hard to get to 6-5.
Serving for the biggest title of his career, the opening point went to Khachanov before the Russian netted, making it 15-15.
A double fault, the second from Draper in the match, gave Khachanov a lead of 30-15 before the Brit netted a simple volley.
Khachanov then missed a cross-court shot and went long allowing Draper a route back into the match.
A brilliant forehand cross-court shot then saw Draper with a championship point and as Khachanov went wide, he handed Draper his maiden ATP 500 title in an hour and 34 minutes.
