Authorities in St. Lucie County, in the state of Floridain the United States, reported that the passage of Hurricane Miltonbetween Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th, caused at least four deaths. However, Governor Ron DeSantis says the state anticipates more victims.

The sheriff (police chief) of St. Lucie County, Keith Pearson, reported that it is not yet possible to confirm the total number of deaths and injured people. Agents are visiting houses in the region to identify the conditions of residents.

Pearson called the hurricane “a weather event like no other” in the region.

The hurricane left more than 3 million people without power in Florida, according to the website Power Outagewhich brings together official information from electricity suppliers in the USA.

About 11 million people are at risk from flash flooding, and a record number of tornadoes have caused widespread damage.

According to the network NBC, Milton It made landfall in Florida at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday, local time (9:30 pm Brasília time), as a category 3 hurricane (on a scale that goes up to 5 – the higher the number, the greater the strength of the winds).

As the hours passed, the hurricane lost strength and, at around 5 am local time (6 am Brasília time), it was classified as level 1, the lowest. Still, there is the possibility of winds of up to 150 km/h.

The United States National Weather Service (NWS) reported that at least five tornadoes were formed during the hurricane’s passage, hitting several regions of Florida, with no estimates yet on the actual damage.

Later on Wednesday, President Joe Biden said he sent thousands of federal agents to areas affected by the storm, including more than a thousand members of the Coast Guard.
