UN force rejects Israeli request to leave southern Lebanon, says spokesperson – World – CartaCapital

The UN force in Lebanon, Unifil, refused to move five kilometers further north towards Lebanese territory, as requested by the UN Army. Israelwho attacked her several times, causing a strong international protestsaid its spokesperson this Saturday 12th.

“Israeli forces asked us to abandon our positions on the Blue Line, from the border to five kilometers from the Blue Line, but there was a unanimous decision to stay, because the UN flag must be raised in this area” explained Andrea Tenenti, spokesperson of the force that has 10,000 blue helmets.

Unifil also reported this Saturday that another blue helmet was injured on Friday the 11th near the border with Israel by gunfire from an unknown source.

Four other peacekeepers, of Indonesian and Sri Lankan nationality, were injured on Thursday and Friday, at least two of them by Israeli fire.
