Pope Francis proclaimed, this Sunday 20th, during Mass in St. Peter’s Square, the canonization of the Italian Jose Allamano for a miracle that occurred in the Brazilian Amazon. He is the founder of the congregation of Consolata Missionaries.
According to the organization Consolata América, the miracle that led to the canonization occurred in 1996, in the state of Roraima, when a Yanomami indigenous man was attacked by a jaguar in the forest and suffered a serious head injury.
The indigenous man was initially treated by Consolata missionaries and then taken to the Boa Vista hospital for surgery. At the time, a group of missionaries invoked Father José Allamano for the boy’s recovery, which was accomplished, and he then returned to the indigenous community.
