While the market awaits a definition on the sale of InterCementother businesses in the sector begin to be unlocked. The group Polimixone of the largest concrete companies in the country and also owner of Cimento Mizu, ordered the purchase of two quarries from the group Queiroz Galvãolocated in the States of Ceará and Rio de Janeiro. The values were not informed and the transaction still depends on approval from the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).

The assets in question are the Ponta da Serra Quarrylocated in Caucaia, and which already serves the metropolitan region of Fortaleza, and Itaboray Quarryin the city of Itaboraí (RJ), which is not yet operational and, according to Polimix’s forecast, should begin activities within 18 months. The two plants are controlled today by Áyla Construtoraone of the subsidiaries of Queiroz Galvão.
The quarries should increase Polimix’s capacity to produce the so-called “aggregates” for concreting: basically crushed stone and industrial sand for various uses in civil construction. Currently, Polimix has 18 quarries in the country, with the capacity to deliver up to 20 million tons of aggregates per year.

In recent years, the company has intensified the purchase of quarries from competitors. In 2022, Polimix had already purchased the Campo Grande Quarry, in Mato Grosso do Sul, from Votorantim Cimentos. Polimix was one of those interested in purchasing the InterCementstrengthening Mizu’s production – however, today favorite to take over the Camargo Corrêa cement plant is CSNde Benjamin Quarry.
Created in the late 1970s in Espírito Santo under the name Concaprex, the Polimix group operates businesses in the areas of concrete, cement, energy and logistics, with Porto Central, a port terminal located in the south of the state. The group, controlled by businessman Ronaldo Moreira Vieira, operates in more than 20 states and in six other countries (United States, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru and Panama).
