The Venezuelan government reaffirmed its “absolute respect” for the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) after the neighboring country’s attorney general, Tarek Saab, said that the Brazilian leader is a “CIA spokesperson”the central intelligence agency of the United States government.
In a note published this Tuesday 15th by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government headed by Nicolas Maduro stated that Saab’s statements are “personal opinions” that are not endorsed by the Executive.
The note highlights that Venezuelan diplomacy “reaffirms its firm commitment to building bonds of brotherhood and solidarity between Brazil and Venezuela”, and points out that “recently the countries have advanced in the political, economic and social areas, consolidating bilateral relations” .
The Venezuelan government also expresses “absolute respect for the historical trajectory of President Lula and his leadership in Brazil, as well as the relations between countries and peoples, which continued to strengthen”, adds the text.
Saab, in an interview with the channel Globovision on Sunday the 13th, he said that Lula “is not the same person who founded the PT” and “has not been the same since he left prison. It’s not the same at all: neither physically nor in the way it expresses itself.”
The prosecutor also criticized the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, who was accused of “betraying the youth” who protested against then-president Sebastián Piñera between 2019 and 2020. The note published this Tuesday by the Venezuelan government does not extend the apology to the Chilean president.
