O Superior Electoral Court (TSE) reported this Thursday (10) that international missions of observers of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasul) concluded that the first round of municipal elections took place in an “orderly and peaceful manner”.

The conclusion is in a partial report of the inspection work. During the election, the two missions monitored voting day, carried out inspections at polling stations, spoke to poll workers and voters and inspected the conditions for organizing voting.

OAS observers reported that the first round occurred without considerable incident and had a low percentage of electronic voting machines that presented problems. High voter turnout was also mentioned.

Among the recommendations made to the TSE, the organization indicated the expansion of awareness campaigns about the importance of female and black people’s participation in elections.

Parlasul representatives recognized that the election took place in a peaceful and democratic manner and highlighted the independence of the Brazilian government authorities and the Electoral Court.

The mission also stated that the ballot box integrity test contributes to promoting the population’s confidence in the voting process.

The performance of independent missions is a standard measure that occurs in all elections.
