The Ministry of Transport now predicts that the auction for the São Borja (RS) international bridge will take place on January 7, in the first event in the current concession cycle to involve a similar structure on the border between Brazil and Argentina.
The criteria for choosing the winner is based on the highest grant value with a minimum of US$40.8 million.
The project is around 16 kilometers long and the notice published on Wednesday foresees investments in improvements of around US$31.5 million, for a total of US$99 million, including maintenance costs, until the end of the 25-year contract. .
According to the ministry, around 23% of commercial operations between Brazil and Argentina depend on the connection between São Borja and the Argentine city of Santo Tomé.
The winner of the auction will have to carry out maintenance on both the Brazilian and Argentine sections. Among the works to be carried out are the construction of access lanes, a new area for impounded vehicles, a truck yard and the installation of a new lighting system.
The federal government’s expectation was that the auction for the bridge would take place in mid-December, as part of a package involving four other road auctions.
