The Federal Court of Auditors (TCU) reported that it approved this Wednesday (23) an agreement between the Ministry of Ports and Airports and the concessionaire GRU Airport. The contract extends the concession period for Guarulhos Airport, in the State of São Paulo, until November 2033. The proposal, approved by TCU ministers, allows GRU Airport to operate the airport for 16 months longer than initially planned.
In return, new investments must be made to increase operating capacity, increase the level of security and improve the quality of services offered. In total, the counterpart will total around R$1.4 billion in contributions between 2025 and 2029.

The amount involves the construction of two piers, expansion of aircraft aprons and creation of taxiways. Equipment for checking checked baggage and onboard baggage, perimeter surveillance, as well as improvements in employee access based on biometrics, among others, will also be acquired.
“Under the proposal, part of the expenses may be divided between the concessionaire and the public authorities, depending on the evolution of passenger demand at the airport”, added the court in the statement. “Contract clauses will also be updated in accordance with Anac’s new rules regarding penalties and arbitration terms.”
