The President of the United States at the end of his term, Joe Bidenaccused his predecessor Donald TrumpRepublican candidate trying to return to the White House, of spreading disinformation about Hurricane Milton, which caused at least 10 deaths in the United States since the night of Wednesday 9.
Making his impatience clear, Biden sent a message to Trump while speaking to journalists: “get a life, man. Help these people.” In Portuguese, the expression can be translated to something close to “go figure something to do, man, help these people”.
One of Trump’s lies – reverberated by other opposition figures – denied by Biden was that the government would only offer 750 dollars (about 4,200 reais) to anyone affected by the hurricane. The amount, guaranteed the current president, is an offer to cover urgent needs, such as food and baby items, such as diapers and formula.
“They need to stop this. They are being very unpatriotic when they say these things”, said Biden, who condemned the “reckless, irresponsible and relentless disinformation and outright lies”.
The current president said he will not talk to his predecessor and political opponent about the issue, and said that the population and the press will hold him responsible for his stance on the hurricane.
Also this Thursday, Trump, at a campaign event, praised the actions of governors from his Republican party during the crisis, but insisted that the federal government’s response has been insufficient.
To date, the US government has reported at least 10 deaths caused by the hurricane. Milton hit the west coast of Florida on Wednesday night as a Category 3 hurricane – on a scale of 5 – and advanced strongly inland before reaching the Atlantic on Thursday.
