The president Lula (PT) spoke on the morning of this Tuesday 22nd, by telephone, with the Russian president Vladimir Putin. The conversation lasted about 20 minutes.
According to Palácio do Planalto, the Russian president wanted to know about Lula’s health status, and regretted that he had not been able to attend the BRICS Summit, which began today. Putin also guaranteed that arrangements will be made for Lula’s participation in the meeting via videoconference.
Lula canceled his trip to Russia, scheduled for Saturday 19th, after suffering a fall at home. Cardiologist Roberto Kalil Filho has banned long-term plane travel, but Lula is carrying out a normal work schedule this week in Brasília.
During the three-day BRICS summit, representatives of 36 countries will discuss cooperation in the spheres of politics and security, economics and finance, cultural and humanitarian contacts.
For this first day, an informal lunch between the leaders is planned. On Wednesday 23rd, meetings will take place between the leaders, followed by participation in a gala ceremony. At the end of the event, guests will meet in two plenary sessions in the Brics+ format, where the Kazan Declaration will be adopted.
The results of the summit meeting will be announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a press conference on Thursday 24th.
