Brazil’s oil production in September totaled 3.470 million barrels per day (bbl/d), an increase of 3.9% compared to August and a reduction of 5.5% compared to the same month in 2023, reported in this Friday (1st) the ANP, the sector’s regulatory agency.

The drop in the annual comparison occurred despite a record in pre-salt oil and gas extraction, signaling that other areas, such as post-salt, saw a decline in the month, according to ANP data.

Petrobras inaugurates new platform

The platform ship Marechal Duque de Caxias (Mero 3) began producing oil and gas on Wednesday (30) this week, in the Mero field, Libra block, in the pre-salt Santos Basin.

The unit has the capacity to produce up to 180,000 barrels of oil daily and compress up to 12 million cubic meters of gas. The platform ship will increase Mero’s installed production capacity from 410,000 to 590,000 barrels of oil per day.
The unit, an FPSO (floating production, storage and transfer unit), is part of Mero’s fourth production system and was chartered from MISC, a Malaysian shipping company.

In total, there will be 15 wells, 8 oil producers and 7 water and gas injectors, interconnected to the platform through underwater infrastructure. The FPSOs Pioneiro de Libra, Guanabara and Sepetiba already operate in the field.
