After being the target of heavy tariffs on electric cars, China’s Ministry of Commerce reported this Monday (4) that it has decided to take action at the WTO against the European Union’s final compensatory measures on electric vehicles manufactured in the Asian country.
Last week, the ministry confirmed the visit of an EU delegation for negotiations on price commitments in the vehicle tariff dispute.
According to Chinese spokespersons, the country “does not approve or accept this decision”. Assuring that “it will continue to take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies”, China said “it has always advocated the resolution of commercial disputes through dialogue and consultation”.

In calling for a “negotiated solution”, the office of German Prime Minister Olaf Scholz stressed that the increase in rates “will naturally lead to a response from the Chinese side. And commercial conflicts of this nature are not something we should pursue.”
