“We have to arrest him,” said the American president this Tuesday, Joe Bidenabout his predecessor and Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump, two weeks before the elections. The audience gathered at a campaign center in New Hampshire applauded enthusiastically. “Arrest him politically”, Biden hastened to clarify.
Trump and his opponent, the vice president Kamala Harrisare technically tied in the polls, with the Republican maintaining a slight advantage in some key states.
The White House had avoided mentioning Trump’s legal troubles, as he faces a long list of charges and a criminal conviction. The Republican insists that the accusations are a political attack.
When Trump faced Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections, he asked for his Democratic opponent to be investigated and arrested. He won and she was not charged with any crime.
Trump’s campaign team attacked the Democrat: “Joe Biden has just acknowledged the truth: his and Kamala’s plan, from the beginning, was to politically persecute their opponent, President Trump, because they cannot beat him fairly and honest,” said Karoline Leavitt, national spokesperson for the campaign.
At several of Kamala’s rallies, the audience chanted for Trump to be arrested, but the candidate responded: “Wait. The courts will take care of that. Let’s take care of November, shall we?”
