The Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro denounced, this Tuesday 22, six partners and employees of the PCS Salemea laboratory contracted by Fundação Saúde to carry out serology of donated organs in Rio de Janeiro. Six transplant patients tested positive for HIV after receiving infected organs.
The MP accuses the targets of the complaint of crimes of criminal association, serious bodily injury and ideological falsehood. One of the employees was also accused of forging a private document.
The complaint was forwarded to the Court by the 2nd Specialized Criminal Investigation Prosecutor’s Office of the Duque de Caxias and Nova Iguaçu Centers. There is also a request for preventive detention of those involved.
Prosecutor Elisa Ramos Pitta Neves highlighted that those accused “were fully aware that patients who receive transplanted organs receive immunosuppressants to prevent their rejection and that the acquisition of any disease in an already fragile organism, especially HIV, would be devastating”. Details of the play were published on the website G1.
The agency also stated that, in addition to a series of tests with false results, the PCS branches “did not even have a permit or health license to operate”.
