The mayor of São Paulo and candidate for re-election, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), this Friday 27th minimized the wait to schedule exams in the city. There were 350,000 people in line in July, according to the most recent data from the Municipal Health Department.
According to the emedebista, this is a “normal everyday queue”. “We carry out 500 thousand tests per month. In general, we got this line moving”, said Nunes in a hearing on TV Globo.
He acknowledged, however, a wait of more than 30 days for some tests to be carried out, such as colonoscopy. Regarding diagnoses to assess the cause of snoring in patients, he claimed that the city hall is having difficulty hiring professionals.
Health is a recurring theme in criticism from Nunes’ opponents. Guilherme Boulos (PSOL), who shares the leadership of the majority of voting intention polls with the mayor, defends the creation of a Health Poupatempo, in decentralized areas of the capital, to tackle exam queues.
