The Brazilian government will donate 20,000 syringes with needles and 4,000 individual needles to Lebanon. The donation of strategic health supplies, due to the emergency experienced by the population of that country, is scheduled to leave Brazil this Sunday 6th, from the São Paulo Air Base, in Guarulhos, bound for Beirut.
The cargo weighs approximately 115 kilos, does not require refrigeration and will be transported on a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) plane. The operation was coordinated by the Ministry of Health in partnership with the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC), of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other emergency goods must be donated in the coming days.
The same aircraft will bring a new group of Brazilians repatriated from Lebanon in the coming days.
The donation meets the demand presented by the Lebanese Embassy in Brasília, on September 23rd. Brazil’s international humanitarian cooperation is based on stocks from the Unified Health System (SUS). Donations are only made after technical analysis that ensures there is no risk of compromising the national supply within the scope of the SUS.
In 2023, Brazil made humanitarian donations of medicines, immunizations and health supplies to several countries, including Bolivia, Cape Verde, Cuba, Libya, Haiti, Palestine, Suriname and Turkey. In 2024, Grenada, Guyana, Honduras, Paraguay, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Uruguay also received Brazilian donations in the health sector.
Operation Cedar Roots
The first rescue flight for Brazilians in the conflict zone in the Middle East, in the operation called Raízes do Cedro, arrived at 10:25 am this Sunday 6th, at the Air Base with 229 passengers, including Brazilians and family members, and three domestic animals repatriated from Lebanon.
According to the Air Force commander, Air Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, the operation will be ongoing with the aim of repatriating around 500 Brazilians per week. The new group of repatriates should arrive in Brazil on Tuesday 8th, around 10am.
