Vale announced this Tuesday the departure of Marcello Spinelli from the position of executive vice-president of Iron Ore Solutions. This is the first major change in the board under the command of the mining company’s new executive president, Gustavo Pimenta.
In place of Spinelli, on an interim basis, will be the company’s current director of Product and Business Development, Rogério Nogueira, who takes on the position on Wednesday and remains until December 31st.
Vale did not provide the reasons for the executive’s departure.

A source with knowledge of the matter, however, told Reuters that Spinelli’s departure was the first important change defined by Vale’s new president, who began his term at the beginning of this month.
According to this source, Pimenta believes that Vale needs changes in its commercial area, seeking a “much stronger” relationship dynamic with customers.
“There really is a new commercial dynamic that will be installed in the company,” said the source, on condition of anonymity, without going into further details.
Spinelli, who, according to the source, will leave the company, joined Vale in 2002, working as an executive in the logistics area, and was later appointed president of VLI Logística and executive vice-president of Ferrosos.
