Nova Ferrari F80

Ferrari NV has revealed its first new supercar in more than a decade. The F80 is a €3.6 million ($3.9 million or R$22 million) vehicle that offers a futuristic reinterpretation of an iconic 1980s design.

Equipped with a 1200 horsepower V6 hybrid engine, the new model is one of the most expensive ever launched by the Italian luxury manufacturer, which announced this Thursday that only 799 units will be produced. Deliveries of the model should begin by the end of next year.

This launch reflects Ferrari’s strategy to further increase its profit margins, which are already industry-leading and have made it the most valuable automaker in Europe, despite manufacturing a fraction of the cars produced by its competitors.

Amid a broader slowdown in luxury spending, demand for high-end supercars costing more than $1 million remains strong. In Italy, the base price of the F80 will be €3.6 million, with prices in other countries to be released later.

The F80, a two-seater with a top speed of around 350 km/h, is the company’s first supercar since the launch of the LaFerrari in 2013. Although the term “supercar” is widely used to refer to high-powered sports cars , Ferrari reserves this name for its most exclusive and limited models. Other rarely released Ferrari supercars include the 1984 GTO and the 2002 Enzo.

According to the company, the design of the F80 was inspired by the aerospace industry. “We wanted to create something absolutely futuristic and disruptive, without being tied to nostalgic ideas,” said Ferrari design director Flavio Manzoni.

Still, Ferrari fans will recognize some similarities with the legendary F40, whose flat hood and striking rear end were a hit in the 1980s and 1990s, adorning the bedroom walls of many young car lovers.

The preview of the model for wealthy buyers was so successful that, although contracts have not yet been signed, the 799 units are already informally reserved by potential customers, said Enrico Galliera, Ferrari’s marketing and commercial director, in a recent interview. The complete sale of the models at a price of €3.6 million each would generate total revenue of €2.88 billion for Ferrari.

CEO Benedetto Vigna has pushed the company towards electrified vehicle production since taking office in 2021. Last month, he said Ferrari is on track to launch its first electric supercar in the final quarter of next year.

Vigna also committed to maintaining the exclusivity of Ferrari’s product line, investing in customization services to increase profits and guaranteeing the necessary flexibility to readjust prices in the future.
