A CEO yes EmbraerFrancisco Gomes Neto, hinted this Thursday (17) that the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer may expand its line beyond the current offering of regional and executive jets.
“We are carrying out studies for a new product, but we still don’t have concrete plans,” he said in an interview with Bloomberg TV, when asked if Embraer would consider developing a competitor to the 737, from Boeingand the A320, from Airbus.
Aerospace analysts have long questioned whether Embraer, the world’s third-largest commercial aircraft maker, would enter the larger jet market dominated by Boeing and Airbus. Launching a new commercial aircraft program could cost tens of billions of dollars and take years to execute, while mistakes could lead to financial disaster.
In May, a report from the “Wall Street Journal” showed that the company would be exploring options for a new model to challenge the large jet duopoly which has dominated the industry for almost three decades.

Focus on executive jets
Earlier, on Bloomberg Radio, Neto had said that the company still had “no plans to grow”.
According to him, Embraer’s main priority at the moment is to sign agreements for regional jets, such as the E2 model, and its line of executive jets.
“We have a very young portfolio of products. Our focus now is to really sell the products we have.”
Francisco Gomes Neto, CEO of Embraer
